COSTUMES FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

19 09 2011

Willard North Parents –

Among our many goals at Willard North Elementary, we strive to instill a sense of obligation and duty to serve our community by giving back what we can to help improve the lives of those in our area.  This year, in an effort to bring fun and excitement into the classroom, as well as help with the needs in the community, we’re proud to announce our Costumes for Community program this school year.

On the last Friday of every month or last day before a holiday break, students are invited to come to school in a costume that corresponds with the month’s theme.  The cost of wearing a costume is $1 donation, with proceeds going to local charitable organizations, as well as some funds being allocated for school enrichment activities.  Donations are appreciated but not required for particpation on that day.  Each month the students will be reminded of the designated costume theme and day.

The costume schedule is as follows:

September 30th – Career Day – In celebration of Labor Day, come dressed in the clothes of a career that you find interesting.

October 21st – Harvest Day – This month we pay respects to our nations farmers on Farmer Day. So, come dressed Farmer and Western Wear.

November 11th– Camouflage Day – November 11th is Veterans Day.  To honor our nation’s heroes, come dressed in camouflage OR patriotic colors.

December 21st – Pajama Day – To practice for the approaching winter break, come and spend the day in your pajamas!

January 27th– Backwards Day – A little known fact, Jan. 31st is National Backwards Day.  To celebrate, come to school with reversed clothing.

February 24th– Sports Day – This month we watched the Super Bowl.  Let’s make it a “Super” day at school and sport our favorite sports attire.

March 30th – Favorite Storybook Character Day – In honor of Dr. Suess’ birthday this month, dress like your favorite storybook character.

April 27th – Recycle Day – As we celebrate Earth Day this month, “recycle” a style from a previous decade.

May 18th – “Summer Rocks” Day – To get ready for a rockin’ summer, come show us the inner “rock star!”
