Havens Girls Update

22 01 2011

This week I made a post of a “Family in Need” which highlighed information on Alexia and Aleena Havens (former students of Willard North).  The girls are making improvements, but it will be a very slow and long process for them.  Because mom is spending a great deal of time with the girls, she is not able to answer emails and phone messages as often as she would like.  She has set up a website that will allow you to check the progress of the girls as well as allow you to make comments and leave messages.

Mom would live everyone to know how much she appreciates the packages, cards, and prayers.  Currently the Shriners are taking care of all needs not only for the girls but for the family.

Here is the website for the girls to keep current on their situation:

Over the weekend the home of 2 of our former students burned. Tyler Havens was a Kindergarten in Ms. Peter’s class and Aleena Havens was a 2nd grader in Mrs. Pliler’s class last school year. These students attended East Elementary the first 2 months of school this year. Alexia attended our early childhood classes with Mrs. Wade. You may have seen this story on the news. Tyler made it out of the house unharmed but Alexia and Aleena were burned very badly. Both girls have been transported to a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio that specializes in burn treatment. Alexia has been upgraded to stable. Aleena is still not doing very well, but is now a little responsive. The Shriner’s are providing monetary support for both girls medical bills and parents expenses while they are recovering from this tragic event.

What does the family need? PRAYERS more than anything right now. Below is information regarding funds that have been set up for the girls. If you would like to donate to the Commerce Bank, the funds will go directly to the girls and their recovery. Until the girls are able to do therapy and/or be out of their beds there is not much we can give them other than our thoughts and prayers. When they are closer to recovery we will find out their needs and let you know. The mother has requested cards, pictures, etc. so that when the girls are able to respond they will see a room full of color and happiness. The teachers at North are sending books for the mom to read to the girls and have assisted Tyler with clothes and toys.

Please keep these girls in your thoughts and prayers. Mom has been very strong and vigilant to stay with the girls every moment she can. Feel free to call our school office if you would like more information and we will keep you posted on their recovery. The money raised from our next “Helping Hats” day will go to the Commerce bank account in order to help the girls and Tyler.

1/10 Willard North News

10 01 2011

Dear Parents,

PTO – Our PTO meeting scheduled for this evening has been cancelled due to weather.  We will reschedule and send you and update.  You can also look us up on our Willard blog and PTO facebook page.

MCDONALD’S COOKIES – Starting Tuesday, January 11th we are selling McDonald’s chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookie coupons.  You can purchase a coupon in the Willard North Office for a baker’s dozen.  Take your coupon to McDonald’s at your convenience and pick up your packet of cookies.  Cost of coupons are $5.00, and Willard North will get a percentage of the profits so please buy, buy, buy. 🙂  Proceeds will go to purchase MAP testing items including healthy snacks.

INCLEMENT WEATHER – If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, late start times you see on the news do not affect elementary start times.  School will still begin at 8:40.

Thank you!!
Angela Stevens, Willard North Principal

Mark the date for McTeacher Night – Monday, January 24th

6 01 2011

Dear Parents,

We will be having a McTeacher Night at the McDonald’s on the corner of Hunt Road and Highway 160 on January 24th from 4pm to 8pm.

This fundraiser will be used to purchase MAP supplies and healthy snacks for students during MAP testing time.

In the past McDonald’s has sold cookies on that night and we have received proceeds from the sales.  This year we will be pre-selling cookies at school.  You can purchase tickets for cookies (a baker’s dozen) in the office to be picked up at your convenience at McDonalds.

So please come out and support Willard North on the 24th, but more importantly come enjoy a meal you don’t have to cook!
